This vintage is highly aromatic, with dense layers of lime, pea shoots, and white strawberry, finishing with a spicy uplift. The texture is round and full. The forepalate is dominated by ripe lychee and passionfruit that hint at sweetness - although the wine is absolutely dry. Flavors of dried sea grass, kiwi, and currants fill out the rich and very long finish. Complex, precise, and substantial, this latest release form Eyrie continues to define the best of Oregon Pinot gris.

This 2015 Eyrie Vineyards Pinot gris Original Vines presents the character of the grape varietal and the vintage as vividly as possible — by working as minimally as possible. Freshness, depth, and vitality are the goal here. The grapes come from the first Pinot gris vines planted in the New World, and we’ve given special attention in order to pay homage to these old vines.

The Chardonnay estate is a barrel selection. Since each barrel ferments with its own yeast and ages at its own rate, each barrel becomes very distinct. Before bottling, Jason tastes each barrel. Those barrels which speak to the longest aging potential become the Original Vines Reserve. This estate, on the other hand, is blended from those barrels which offer the most immediate pleasure.

Certified organic. The oldest vines in the Willamette Valley are among the last surviving remnants of the Draper field selection, a French import from the 1930s now extinct outside of our region. Vines are non-irrigated and no herbicides, systemic chemicals or insecticides have ever been used in the vineyards. Upon harvest, the grapes from these venerable vines are gently destemmed, crushed and pressed in slow cycles. The wine ferments in mostly neutral French oak barrels and ages in our cool cellar for one year on the lees.

The overall impression of the wine is freshness and balance in spite of the warm vintage.  On the nose, savory red raspberry and blueberry combine with a truffled earthiness and floral spice.  On the palate, crushed strawberry, violets, and sweet cherry pay homage to the riper year while briar, and porcini notes bring complexity. Texture is defined by soft but present tannins that rise through the midpalate to create a sueded texture. The tannins are enhanced by firm acidity on the finish.

2013 Eyrie South Block Reserve Pinot Noir Price: 1.500,00 DKK

From 1975 until 2007, David Lett made a South Block Reserve from a parcel of vines that started showing signs of phylloxera, and so with that demise in mind, Jason is reviving the label because he believes there could be only around ten years left. The 2013 Pinot Noir South Block Reserve has a very refined, delineated bouquet with precise red cherry, crushed strawberry, bergamot and vanilla pod scents given lift by the prudent 25% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, an impressive tensile structure that delivers plenty of mineralité on the sustained finish. It is a complex wine that should age with style and panache.
